Summary

There are significant difficulties in responding to emergency situations, in particular, the difficulty in on-site coordination between members of the security or rescue teams. The emergency situations can range from hostage situations, to fire-fighting, and rescue in natural calamities like earth-quakes. The project focused on creating an auto-configuring, self-healing, rapidly deployable wireless network and designing software which will run over such a network to provide an efficient, multi-purpose wireless communication system tailored to support emergency response teams.
The main motivation behind the project was to design a system for helping the country in emergency situations. It was offered as a finished product to customers. Local humanitarian organizations involved in disaster-relief were not be charged or minimally charged for the product.
