Event Date 19-08-2017
Place National Incubation Center, Islamabad

On August 19-20, 2017, Ignite (formerly known as the National ICT R&D Fund) – Ministry of IT & Telecom, which is a VC Fund focused on fourth industrial wave tech and on ecosystem development initiatives to fulfill its mission of creating a knowledge economy in Pakistan, will turn 150 people in and around the twin cities, into hackers during this inaugural event, a 36-hour national hackathon focused on the Sustainable Development Goals.

The SDGs, or Sustainable Development Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

The goals are interconnected – often the key to success on one will involve tackling issues more commonly associated with another. They tackle the root causes of poverty and unite us together to make a positive change for both people and planet.

The event co-organizer is Code for Pakistan, a technology focused non-profit, building a non-partisan civic innovation ecosystem to improve the quality of life across Pakistan.

Announcing Pakistan’s first SDG Hackathon 2017!

Join us in Islamabad the weekend of August 19-20 and learn how your tech, creative, and problem solving skills can be used to make a positive impact at a national scale. During this weekend, you will learn design thinking, open-source hacking for social good, receive mentoring and input from domain experts in government and local organizations, have opportunities to network, and work in teams to create solutions — all for free.

You will form teams to create prototypes that address civic and social problems in line with the SDGs. All you need to do is bring your creativity, skills, and enthusiasm!

The SDG Hackathon will bring together programmers, designers, urban mappers, data analysts, community organizers, researchers, journalists, and government information to reboot local services by creating open source web, mobile, and SMS applications. Imagine a peace corps of geeks for civic betterment.

Selected SDGs for participants to focus their projects and solutions on are:

  • Good Health & Well-Being
  • Quality Education
  • Industry Innovation & Infrastructure
  • Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • No Poverty
  • Zero Hunger
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Responsible Consumption and Production

Participation in the hackathon is FREE, but while we’d love to include everyone, space and logistical constraints mean that admission is open only to those accepted from the pool of applicants. So apply now before space runs out! The application deadline is August 12, 2017.
