Ignite sponsored Karachi Koalas, the joint World RoboCup Soccer team of Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi and University of Technology, Sydeny (UTS) for contesting the World RoboCup Soccer 2013. The team was ranked 5th in this year’s World RoboCup Soccer competition in the simulation robots category. Since 2011 the Karachi Koalas team has shown continuous improvement as they were ranked among top 16, in RoboCup 2012. This year the team has managed to ingress even further by reaching the top 5 slot. It is noteworthy that the Karachi Koalas defeated university teams of Japan, China, Iran, Brazil, Russia and France and played draws with teams of UK and USA.
RoboCup Soccer is the most challenging and exciting competition within the field of Computer Science. The aim of the RoboCup Soccer is to build a team of robots that can defeat FIFA World Champion Humans team by 2050. The entire competition is divided in multiple competition leagues – including small robots, large robots, humanoid robots and simulation robots. This year, the competition was attended by around 500 teams/universities from 40 plus countries
