Summary

The project aimed to design transceiver hardware for wireless communication. The main focus was multi-function multiband transceiver architecture, suitable for various communication standards including Software Defined Radio. A frequency agile, power adaptive broadband power amplifier has applications in many fields including high speed mobile data services, defense, jamming devices etc. Also, the RF front end is a major bottle neck in the realization of Software Defined Radio (SDR). In this project, a particular case of SDR covering WiFi and WiMAX has been targeted. The research looked for the implementation of a flexible and reconfigurable RF transceiver. Furthermore, this project focused on the power amplifier aspect of the reconfigurable frontend required for SDR. The designed amplifier is useful for WiFi and WiMAX transceivers as well as S-band communication standards. So far, multi band radio transceivers have separate Power Amplifiers for each band. A single amplifier for multi band operation means smaller size, less power consumption, reduced Bill of Material and thus is attractive for both civil and military applications in the country and international high-tech industries such as Ericsson, Infineon and Huawei.
