Summary

A telemedicine system was designed for tele screening with capabilities of self diagnosis, real time access to data from rural areas, assignment of ophthalmologist for expert opinion and management of a national database for regular monitoring.
It also designed a DR detection system having state of the art image processing and pattern recognition algorithms for intelligent classification of retinal image abnormalities to detect and grade the DR and risk of sudden vision loss. The objective of the proposed system was not to bypass physician’s role in clinical practice but to aid physicians in time consuming screening of retinal images.
