The Project “Core Components for 4th Generation Telecommunication Infrastructure” is an implementation of Core Network components for IP Multimedia (IMS) Subsystem Network. IP Multimedia Subsystem is Next Generation 3G/4G Multimedia Services Delivery Network over Internet Protocol (IP). The Core Components that are developed as a part of this Project Include following 1- Home Subscriber Server (HSS) HSS is the main data storage for all subscriber and service-related data of the IMS. The Data in Home Subscriber Server includes user identities, registration information, access parameters, provisioned services and service-triggering information. This component is somewhat equivalent of the Home Location Register (HLR) in the GSM networks. HSS is basically a Diameter Server with database storage attached. HSS supports two 3GPP defined applications called “Cx/Dx” and “Sh” applications for IMS Network. 2-Charging Data Function (CDF) Charging Data Function is a Offline Charging Server in IMS Network that is used for charging the users in non-real-time fashion. The protocol used is Diameter. The CDF creates a Charging Data Record (CDR) from the data received in the Diameter message. The reference point defined in IMS between CDF and other IMS entities is Rf. 3-Online Charging System (OCS) The Online Charging System is used in the IMS networks for charging the users for the services in real time. The Online Charging System is an implementation of 3GPP Online Charging System specification. It exposes Ro Interface with the application requiring the online charging. The Online Charging System implements the Rating Function and Account Balance Management Functionality that can be integrated with the backend Billing System. 4-Media Resource Function All the media related functions are handled by MRF in IMS Networks. The Media Resource Function is broken into two components The Media Resource Function Controller (MRFC) and The Media Resource Function Processor (MRFP). The MRFC handles the signaling part for the Media Transport control while the MRFP handles actual media Processing such as RTP streaming, Encoding, and Conference Control etc. 5-Operations ,Administration, Maintenance and Provisioning (OAM&P) Network management system is an essential requirement for any carrier grade solution. No operator or service provider, whether large or small, would deploy a solution that does not have a comprehensive NMS bundled with it. 3GPP has standardized some key pieces and interfaces of a network management solution for IMS. These are collectively known as Operations, Administration, and Management & Provisioning (OAM & P) sub-system. Three categories or classes of management information have been defined by 3GPP for IMS Configuration Management, Performance Management and Fault Management. Interfaces have been defined for each category between information generating agents and information collecting agents. These interfaces are called Integration Reference Points (IRP). Each network element or node in the IMS has IRP agents embedded in it that collect information and/or configure or provision the element on receiving commands from its client. In each node, there is one IRP agent for configuration management, one for performance management, and one for fault management. These agents are contacted by remote clients that are called IRP managers or users of IRP agents.
