According to some estimates there would be 20 to 30 Billion IoT devices by 2020 while there would be 1 trillion sensors by 2025. By 2022 IoT will save consumers and businesses $1 Trillion a year in maintenance, services and consumables. Some of the key IoT verticals around the world are:

1. Smart Home

2. Smart Cities

3. Health

4. Security

5. Smart Industry and

6. Transportation

Pakistani startups and ICT industry have also taken some initial steps in this direction but challenges remain. These include lack of advanced PCB/electro-mechanical equipment manufacturing facilities in the country, problems with import of hardware and lack of standardization, industrial design and packaging facilities. Some of the objectives of IoT Innovation Centre (ITIC) are; enabling startups in the IoT domain through mentor-ship and access to capital, access to state of the art infrastructure, commercialization support, and local and international collaborations.
