Summary

The project used wireless sensors to amalgamate and utilize data in order to measure the road traffic congestion in urban areas and then investigate, propose and implement the most appropriate queuing algorithms from communication theory to regulate traffic and ease the congestion in traffic hotspots during busy hours.
The setup of a quality ITS research lab assisted in providing low cost, innovative and customized solutions to the local industry and market. Engineers from industry had an opportunity to work in a research based project that concentrates on an emerging area in the field of wireless communication that has a myriad of practical applications and positive implications. One of the objectives achieved was to develop local wireless modules with an intent to market them later as commercial products through which the students got an idea about the importance of developing entrepreneurship skills.
