Newly built ICT Center at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) that has been funded by Ignite was inaugurated on October 26, 2015 by Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecom, Ms. Anusha Rahman Ahmad Khan. The center offers students a nurturing environment to innovate in the ICT domain.
In her welcome address, Vice Chancellor, LCWU, Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi highlighted the achievements of university besides dilating upon its rise as a top tier university for women over the years. Currently the university is offering PhD in 17 disciplines. She also appreciated the support and mentorship of Ignite (Formerly National ICT R&D Fund) in establishing the ICT Center at the campus.
Ms. Anusha Rahman, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecom being the Alma matter of the institution candidly shared her experience of studying at the Lahore College with a vision to become a leader rather than led. She stressed upon the students to play their rightful role in the progression of the country. She was adamant on the fact that no nation can prosper if half of their population does not put in their bit in the economic development of the country.
She said that ICT provides an opportunity for the female population to contribute in the national economy while enjoying the comfort of their homes. The ICT Center she stressed should be the start for their future endeavors. She also encouraged the students come forward and play a more vibrant role in their professional capacities.
She also commended the high standards of education the college has evolved over the years and achieved a distinct name among leading institutions of the country.
Earlier speaking on the occasion, Syed Muhammad Asif Rumi, CEO Ignite reiterated the importance of women entrepreneurship. He also highlighted the distinct scalability of the ICT domain that allows everyone to work at relative convenience in terms of time and space, which provides an excellent opportunity for women to contribute towards knowledge based economy.
He said that Pakistan ranks number 4 in freelance countries, that just show the enthusiasm and potential of our youth to generate revenue through self-employment and other ICT centric ventures. This newly constructed ICT Center will therefore serve as a springboard for those who want to venture into this promising domain.
