The Arrhythmia and Sudden Death Syndrome Detection (A Hybrid Network Based Telemedicine System) is a Ignite (Formerly National ICT R&D Fund), funded collaborative project with NUST College of E&ME and AFIC as partners.
Electrocardiography (ECG) is one of the tools of cardiac monitoring. It is a dilemma that despite the installation of hundreds of ECG machines in hospitals and clinics throughout the country, patients with severe arrhythmic abnormalities are often misdiagnosed or mistreated usually in rural areas due to unavailability of expert cardiologists at the ECG monitoring station. Moreover, most ECG machines presently installed do not have capabilities like high resolution signal acquisition, remote monitoring, real time data storage and patient database management.
The key benefits of iDiagnostic & Telemedicine Systems are as under:
- Development of state-of-the-art telemedicine system which has the capacity to support the nation-wide load of remote ECG recording centers throughout Pakistan;
- Development of an analysis software which incorporates latest ECG diagnosing algorithms;
- Production of first ever High Resolution net-enabled smart ECG machine with maximum sampling frequency of up to 4 KHz;
- Research carried out resulted in 9 publications in international conferences.
