National Grassroots ICT Research Initiative (2017-18)





This initiative aims to promote, enable, and encourage R&D culture at the grassroots level by funding relatively high caliber R&D projects initiated by ICT related undergraduate students under the mentorship of faculty members in chartered universities of both Public and Private sector.

During this year the program has been divided in to two distinct phases.

Phase I

In this phase the Fund will provide financial support to selected Final Year Projects (FYP) of undergraduate students enrolled in ICT related disciplines like Computer Science & Information Technology, Electrical, Electronics, Telecom, Computer, Software Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering etc.

The financial assistance during this phase will enable students undertaking Final Year Projects (FYP) in building prototypes and working models to showcase their creativity and innovation by applying hands on engineering and development skills. The funding covers the cost for purchase of equipment and miscellaneous costs related to the development of prototypes only and the break-up of budget is as follows:

1. Equipment

Maximum up to Rs. 70,000/-

2. Miscellaneous

Maximum up to Rs. 10,000/-




Phase II

In second phase of the program a competition at national level amongst the approved FYPs of Phase I will be conducted. After completion of Phase I of the Program, each University/Institution will be requested to nominate one FYP of the University/Institution for participation at national level competition. At competition at National Level, following prizes will be awarded:

  • National Champion
  1. Student Team (Maximum of 4):                       Cash Prize of Rs. 400,000/-
  2. FYP Supervisor    :                                         Cash Prize of Rs. 100,000/-
  • First Runners Up
  1. Student Team (Maximum of 4):                        Cash Prize of Rs. 300,000/-
  2. FYP Supervisor:                                             Cash Prize of Rs. 75,000/-
  • Second Runners Up
  1. Student Team (Maximum of 4):                       Cash Prize of Rs. 200,000/-
  2. FYP Supervisor:                                             Cash Prize of Rs. 50,000/-


How to Apply

The nominations for Final Year Projects may be furnished through respective Head of Departments on the prescribed nomination form at the following address (No online submission is accepted):

      i.        No online submission is accepted. Only hardcopy of forms completely filled out in all respects and having requisite signatures will be entertained and processed further.


ii. Hard copies of forms duly signed by the FYP Supervisor and Head of Department may be furnished through courier/registered mails and the same must be received in Fund’s Office by February 28, 2018 before 5.00 pm. Nominations received after the deadline will not be processed further.
